Police arrest man identified by victim

An 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with a March 28 robbery when the victim spotted him in Waikiki and called police.

Police said the victim, 20, was sitting on a bench near the intersection of Ala Wai and Lewers Street when he was approached by a man who asked if he wanted to buy marijuana. When he declined, the man pointed a handgun and demanded money.

The victim held his wallet open and the suspect allegedly took money and his backpack and fled.

Just after midnight yesterday, the victim recognized the suspect; police arrested him at 325 Seaside Ave.

First-degree robbery charges are pending.


Stepfather reports stolen goods found

A Palolo man turned his stepson over to police Monday on suspicion of burglary when he found stolen property in their home.

Police were called to the 10th Avenue home after 8 a.m. when the stepfather found a woman's purse beneath the couch containing identification. Police said the man called the owner, who said the purse had been stolen along with other items in a burglary.

He then found a laptop and two guitars in his stepson's room that had been stolen from the woman's home, police said.

The 18-year-old was arrested and released last night pending further investigation.


Kona pharmacy robber sought

Police are seeking help solving an April 8 burglary at the Kealakekua Pharmacy in Kona.

One or more burglars broke into the pharmacy at 2:43 a.m. by smashing a sliding glass door, police said. Drugs were taken from a locked cabinet inside.

Witnesses reported seeing a man leave the pharmacy, in the Mango Court complex in Kainaliu. He was described as about 6 feet tall, slim and wearing a light-colored sweater with a hood. They also saw a large white or tan sedan leave the parking lot, police said.

Puna residents warned of scam

Big Island police have issued a warning about a woman who has traveled from house to house in Puna for three months selling phony orders for char siu.

She allegedly drives a red Ford Bronco II and tells residents she is raising money to benefit either a hula halau or the Hawaiian Paradise Park Association. She allegedly collects money but never delivers the pork on the date promised, police said.

Equestrian missing after Polihale ride

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Search teams continued looking yesterday for a man who disappeared while horseback riding Monday in Kekaha.

Dallas Adams, 48, told his wife he would be riding near Polihale or in the mountains Monday. He had not returned home when she returned from work. His horse was found Monday evening wandering near the Kekaha Gardens Park.

Adams was described as 5-feet-10, 200 pounds, with brown eyes and hair, possibly wearing black pants and cowboy attire. Seach teams looked without success in the Polihale area and old cane fields in the region.
