LEEWARD

Gulch testimony due June 19

The Honolulu Department of Environmental Services has again extended the deadline for written testimony on its Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill expansion plan.

The plan would expand the Leeward O'ahu landfill by 60.5 acres to accommodate the island's rubbish through 2017.

The new deadline is June 19. The city has extended the deadline more than half a dozen times.


HONOLULU

Letter carriers to collect food

Postal carriers will be collecting nonperishable food while delivering mail Saturday as part of a national drive to help feed the hungry.

The National Association of Letter Carriers has been collecting food donations for 10 years. Last year 250,000 carriers gathered more than 70 million pounds of food nationwide, including 276,000 pounds in Hawai'i.

Residents can contribute by leaving donations next to their mailboxes for the carriers to pick up.


NORTH SHORE

Student artwork in Waialua show

The Friends of The Waialua Public Library will hold a spring art show from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tomorrow featuring works by students of Waialua Intermediate and High schools.

The free exhibit will begin with a reception offering an opportunity to meet the artists.

Guests will be able to buy artworks. A portion from sales will go to the library.
