Henry Ayau Jr. services set; ashes to be scattered at sea

Funeral services for Henry Ayau Jr. will be Thursday at Punahou chapel.

Ayau, an experienced waterman and prominent figure in the local entertainment scene, died Wednesday morning at Straub Clinic and Hospital. He was 61.

Visitation will be at 4:30 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. The family requests aloha attire.

The scattering of ashes will be May 17 at the Outrigger Canoe Club. The ceremony starts at 8:30 a.m. with scattering of ashes from a canoe offshore at 10 a.m.

A fund-raiser celebration of Ayau's life is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. May 30 at Don Ho's Island Grill, with proceeds going toward an annual canoe race or surfing meet in Ayau's name.

Ayau is survived by his mother, Mabel; sisters, Dana and Lana; brothers, Butch and Ronnie; sons, Bruce, David and Patrick; and daughters, Kathy and Leslie.
