HMSA elects 2 board members
Two new board members were elected at the Hawaii Medical Service Association's annual membership meeting last week.
Luke Y. Teruya, a Honolulu dentist specializing in pediatric dentistry, and Della M. Lin, M.D., a practicing anesthesiologist, join HMSA's community board. which comprises 27 directors.
The board includes representatives from healthcare, business, labor, government, education, clergy, and the community at large. Directors serve staggered three-year terms. The new board members will fill seats in the provider category.
Oil exploration firm posts loss
Barnwell Industries Inc., a Honolulu-based oil exploration company, said it had a net loss of $210,000, or
16 cents a share, in the last quarter because of a decline in natural gas and oil prices.
The quarter's loss compares to net earnings of $1.4 million, or $1.02 a share, in the same period a year ago.
Morton Kinzler, chairman and CEO, said: "Net earnings have decreased due to ... declines in oil and natural gas revenues ... due primarily to significant decreases in petroleum prices, factors beyond the company's control."
