Korean tourist drowns off Waikiki

A 50-year-old Korean tourist drowned Thursday while swimming off Kuhio Beach.

The man was pulled to shore by Waikiki lifeguards and other beachgoers at about 4:50 p.m., police said.

Paramedics performed CPR, police said, but the man was declared dead upon arrival at Straub Hospital at 5:07 p.m.

His name was withheld pending notification of family.


Pedestrian killed by car identified

The city medical examiner's office has identified the pedestrian killed in a Wednesday night traffic accident as Raymond Alan Melley, 31, of Wahiawa.

Melley died at the scene at 9:39 p.m. when he was hit by a car heading north on Kamehameha Highway, near Wheeler Army Airfield.

Police said it was unclear whether he had been walking, sitting or lying in the roadway when he was hit, adding that he was not in a marked crosswalk.

The accident occurred about two-tenths of a mile north of Leilehua Golf Course Road.


2 suspects sought in jewelry burglary

Police were searching for two men who burglarized a Young Street jewelry business on March 18.

Two burglars were seen on surveillance video kicking in the front door at 4:42 a.m., then searching for items to steal from Premier Jewelry Services at 1245 Young St.

They stole cigarette lighters, jewelry and a Glock handgun. The burglars left in a stolen, gold, four-door Dodge that had been taken from the Makiki area just before the burglary. The stolen car was recovered April 9 in the McCully area.

The first man was described as in his 30s with a receding hairline and clean shaven. He was 5 feet 8 to 6 feet tall with a muscular build. He wore a T-shirt and dark-colored gloves.

The second man was described as in his 30s. He had a medium build, and was about 5 feet 8 to

5 feet 10. He wore an aloha shirt, sun visor and gloves.

Parole violator subject of search

Police were searching for a 24-year-old parole violator who they said is wanted for questioning in connection with several burglaries and auto thefts in Pearl City, Kalihi and Kahala.

Ryan Lee Martin is wanted for a parole revocation warrant for previous convictions, including first- and second-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, auto theft and kidnapping, police said.

Martin's last known address is in the 3500 block of Salt Lake Boulevard. Police said Martin is considered dangerous.

Martin is 5 feet 7, 130 pounds, with a medium build. He has a mustache and black hair worn in a pony tail. He has brown eyes, a medium complexion and tattoos on his right triceps and the name "Laura" across his back.
