Flood watch issued for O'ahu, Kaua'i

Advertiser Staff

A flash flood watch and a severe-thunderstorm watch for O'ahu and Kaua'i are in effect until 4 a.m. tomorrow, the National Weather Service said today.

A high-surf advisory remains in effect for the south- and southwest-facing shores of all islands.

City and County life guards were busy today as waves on the south shore reached heights of nearly 6 feet.

Dispatcher Rod Alderton said three people were rescued at Sandy Beach, one at Kuhio Beach, 7 from the water near Portlock. He said 23 people were assisted out of the water off Waikiki.

Life guards also helped firefighters rescue kayakers having difficulty in Niu Valley.

None of the people were seriously injured, Alderton said.

"The surf will probably continue tomorrow but as far as Mothers' Day, it was all good news," he said.

Kaua'i had heavy rains today, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.
