The Phi Theta Kappa Pacific Region chapters recently won six international awards; three Hawai'i chapters ranked among the top 100 of more than 1,300 nationally. Phi Theta Kappa is the national honor society for students in two-year community or junior colleges. Among the awards given were:

• The 2002 Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, given to an outstanding community college executive officer, went to Dr. John Morton, Alpha Kappa Psi Chapter, Kapi'olani Community College.

• The 2002 Distinguished Chapter President Award went to BAlpha Kappa Psi, Kapi'olani Community College.

• The 2002 Award for Distinguished Chapter Officer went to Dawn League-Pablo, Alpha Kappa Psi, Kapi'olani Community College.

• The Scholarship Hallmark Award: Alpha Kappa Iota, Honolulu Community College.

• The Leadership Hallmark Award: Alpha Kappa Psi, Kapi'olani Community College.

• The Distinguished Chapter Award: Alpha Kappa Iota, Honolulu Community College.

• A 2002 Distinguished Region Award went to the Pacific Region and was accepted by Regional Coordinator Charlotte Toguchi.

• Recognized as top 100 Phi Theta Kappa chapters were Alpha Kappa Iota of Honolulu Community College; Alpha Kappa Psi of Kapi'olani Community College and Alpha Lambda Theta of Windward Community College.

• The University of Hawai'i's College of Business Administration and School of Travel Industry Management recently honored the following:

• Teaching Excellence Awards went to associate professors David Griffith and Roberta Lamb and instructor Dean Cost.

• Alumni Hall of Honor inductees were: Barry Taniguchi, CEO of KTA Super Stores; Nonie Toledo, vice president of Sprint Hawaii; Keith Vieira, senior vice president of Hawai'i and French Polynesia for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.; and Tsuyoshi Sakata, regional director, of Asian business development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

• Distinguished Service Award went to Kamehameha Schools, its trustees and CEO Hamilton McCubbin.

• Student award recipients were: Melissa Motosue, Roberta Arakawa, Jenny Garcia-Quinones, Barbara Obermaier, Ying Yan Chen, Benjamin Duquette, Jared Au, Alina Cheng, Aedward Los Banos, Jolene Walker, Lezlie Yamauchi, Danielle Tarumoto, Baron Nakano, Isa Chong, Reid Hoc, Davin Yasuda, Yu Jun, Michael Goddard, Victoria Peters, Hey Heyse Ngan, Lezlie Ragamat, Bodil Lande, Carlos Sullivan III, Natalie Burgess, Martha Vanderbilt, Catherine Chunyi Liang, Monte Littlefield, Kristi Arakaki, Chanadda Atiset, David Brannon, Steve Hayamoto, Ryan Chun, Wendi Takemoto, Melissa Archpru, Reid Hoe, Amy Pesante, Daniel Chun and Alice Chiao.
