Celebration of Ayau's life slated

Fund-raiser tickets that will help start an annual canoe race or surfing meet honoring the late Henry Ayau Jr. will be available tomorrow, his brother Butch Ayau said.

Ayau, an experienced waterman and prominent figure in the local entertainment scene, died May 8. He was 61.

A fund-raiser celebration of Ayau's life is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. May 30 at Don Ho's Island Grill. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling Don Ho's Island Grill at 528-0807.

Funeral services for Ayau will be Thursday at the Punahou chapel.

Visitation will be at 4:30 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. The family requests aloha attire.

The scattering of ashes will be Friday at the Outrigger Canoe Club. Refreshments will be served at 8 a.m. with scattering of ashes from a canoe offshore at 10 a.m.

Ayau is survived by his mother, Mabel; sisters, Dana and Lana; brothers, Butch and Ronnie; sons, Bruce, David and Patrick; and daughters, Kathy and Leslie.
