Brigham Young University Hawai'i tennis player Petra Gaspar has been named to the 2002 Verizon All-District VIII College Division Women's At-Large All-Academic Team.

Gaspar helped BYU-Hawai'i win the NCAA Division II national championships earlier this week in Kansas City, Mo. It was the Seasiders' fifth title in six years.

Gaspar, a four-time first-team All-American, went undefeated this season with a 29-0 record. She is 132-1 overall, including a consecutive match winning streak of 103.

The senior travel-management major also was selected to the PacWest Conference All-Academic team for the third straight year.

To qualify an athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.2 and have substantial athletic achievements.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

• HPU's Choy Foo second team: Hawai'i Pacific University sophomore shortstop Brandy Choy Foo was named to the NCAA Division II All-West Region softball second team.

Choy Foo was the only player from a Hawai'i team selected for the honor.

The Waimanalo resident played in all 42 games this season and led the Sea Warriors in batting average (.356), hits (47) and runs scored (28).

Choy Foo was an all-conference honorable mention selection last year.

• UH's Judd, Porter honored: University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine shortstop Kate Judd and first baseman Stacey Porter were named to the Louisville Slugger West Region First Team.

Both are from Australia.

Judd, a junior, led the WAC with a .354 batting average while being selected as the WAC Player of the Year for the second straight year.

Porter, a sophomore, led the league with 15 homers, 112 total bases and a .622 slugging percentage. She was first team All-WAC.

The two are now eligible for the Louisville Slugger All-American team, which will be announced later this month.
