Three Wahine take second in WAC track

The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team finished last at the nine-team Western Athletic Conference Championships at Rice University's Track/Soccer Stadium in Houston.

Fresno State won the meet with 129 points. Rice (126) finished second and Nevada (119) third. Hawai'i finished with 49 points.

Hawai'i senior Cheryl Smith finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:08.22, a little more than a minute behind SMU's Karin VanRooyen (16:03.40).

Smith defended her 10,000 title with a time of 36:25.92 on Friday.

Hawai'i senior Casey McGuire-Turcotte placed second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:30.67. VanRooyen won the event with a 4:24.85.

McGuire-Turcotte finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:11.22.

Wahine sophomore Olivia Smoody finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.7 meters.
