Tulsa sends Islanders to sixth consecutive loss, 73-48

The Hawaiian Islanders played the Tulsa Talons for the second time in three weeks last night and the result was much like the first.
Joe Phears completed 13-of-16 passes for 181 yards and five touchdowns as Tulsa beat the Islanders, 73-48, in an arenafootball2 game at Tulsa, Okla.
The Islanders, which lost 70-42 to the Talons on May 4, have lost six straight.
The Islanders led 9-7 after the first quarter after a 30-yard field goal by Jake Huggins and a 4-yard run by Morrie Roe.
Tulsa (6-1) put the game away by outscoring the Islanders 30-9 in the second quarter. The Talons took the lead for good on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Phears to Keonta Golson with 6:35 left in the quarter, which made the score 22-16.
Anthony Buich completed 8-of-15 passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns for Tulsa.
Golson caught seven passes for 81 yards and four touchdowns. He caught three scoring strikes from Phears.
Tulsa's Sean Love caught six passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns, and also ran for another.
The Talons scored 10 touchdowns on their 12 possessions.
"The team kept fighting to the end," defensive coach Doug Semones said. "They didn't quit, the guys showed a lot of pride out there."
The Islanders scored seven touchdowns and one field goal on their 13 possessions.
Hawai'i's Darnell Arceneaux completed 12-of-31 passes for 195 yards and four touchdowns. He also scored on a 10-yard run in the third quarter.
Isaac White caught five passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns, and Robert Kemfort hauled in four passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns for the Islanders.
Mike Tillis replaced Arceneaux in the fourth quarter and completed all three of his passes for 41 yards and one touchdown.
"I thought the team played great regardless of the score," Islanders coach Chad Carlson said. "We played a very good team and cut down on our turnovers."
The Bakersfield Blitz is atop the Western Division with a 4-2 record. The San Diego Riptide (3-4) is second, the Fresno Frenzy (2-5) third and the Islanders (1-6) last.
The Islanders' next game will be at Fresno on Saturday. Their only win this season was against the Frenzy in the season opener on March 30.
They will conclude their road trip at San Diego on June 1.
Their next home game will be June 8 against Peoria.
