"Ally McBeal" finale, 8 p.m., Fox. When "Ally McBeal" arrived in 1997 it dazzled us. Here was a fresh take on the modern woman. Its brilliant scripts by David E. Kelley were boosted by stylish direction, a great cast (led by Calista Flockhart) and Vonda Shepard's warm singing.
It was a hot show that eventually burned itself out. Tonight, Ally makes a life-changing choice, which brings back some of the show's departed co-stars. Returning are Lisa Nicole Carson (Renee), Gil Bellows (the late Billy) and Courtney Thorne-Smith (Georgia).
