"We offer voters what they want in this watershed election: A clear path away from business as usual and a fresh face committed to new ways of taking our Hawai'i where we want to go," said Case, who represents Manoa in the state House. "We don't ask whether we must change, but how best to realize what we all seek."
Rep. Ed Case has filed to run for governor.
Case is a former House majority leader, but split with many of his colleagues in 2000 when he publicly criticized the Democrats for doing too little to streamline and cut the cost of state government.
His priorities are still controlling the cost of government along with revitalizing the economy and reforming public education, Case said.
Case has been a partner with the law firm Carlsmith Ball since 1989.
He is expected to face Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris and former city managing director D.G. "Andy" Anderson in the Democratic primary on Sept. 23.
Republicans who plan to run for governor include former Maui mayor and former state GOP chairwoman Linda Lingle, and former state Sen. John Carroll.
