Board to review skate-park plan

A proposal for a skateboard ramp at Booth District Park will be discussed at the Nu'uanu/Punchbowl Neighborhood Board meeting at 7:15 p.m. today at Booth Park.

The discussion comes as a proposal for a moratorium on skate-park construction has passed the City Council's Budget Committee and will be voted on by the full council May 29. Concerns over skate-park injury liability were given as a reason for the proposed one-year moratorium.

The board will also update vision projects including the Nu'uanu Valley multi-purpose center, which will be discussed at the city Planning Commission May 29, and try to fill a board vacancy in the Punchbowl area.

N. King Street work to begin

A city contractor will begin a nighttime repaving project tomorrow along North King Street between Liliha and River Street as part of the King Street Rehabilitation Project.

The repaving will be done between 6:30 p.m and 5 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and is expected to be completed by June 7. Temporary lane closures will leave two open lanes in each direction.

The entire project is scheduled to be finished by July 2.

More Waikiki tours added

The number of free Waikiki Historic Trails tours each week will increase from nine to 12 starting June 1 to accommodate more people. Sunday tours will be dropped because of low attendance.

The Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association will offer its two walking tours — the Queen's Tour covering Diamond Head and east Waikiki, and the Kalia Tour for west Waikiki — Monday through Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

The Waikiki Historic Trails include 23 markers and helps tell the 400-year history of Waikiki. For information, visit www.waikikihistorictrail.com or call 841-6442.
