KAUA'I

Kids can learn ocean safety

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Youngsters on Kaua'i can learn ocean safety from the Kaua'i Fire Department's Ocean Safety Bureau at summer classes around the island.

Youths ages 13 to 18 must be able to run 100 yards and swim 100 yards nonstop to participate in the program. Those who complete the 20-hour course will receive junior lifeguard certificates.

Classes are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 10-14 at Salt Pond, June 24-28 at Po'ipu, July 1-5 at Kalapaki, July 8-12 at Anahola and July 22-26 at Hanalei.
