Ex-Kalaheo star Sensley applies for NBA draft

Advertiser Staff

Former Kalaheo High basketball star Julian Sensley applied for early entry into the NBA Draft last weekend.

It is the latest in what has become a bizarre series of moves for the 6-foot-9 forward, widely regarded as one of the best high school players in Hawai'i history.

Since last summer, Sensley has been linked to at least four colleges, although he has not played basketball at any of them.

One year ago, Sensley graduated from St. Thomas More, a prep school in Connecticut, and was listed as one of the top high school recruits in the country.

He signed a letter of intent to play for California, but did not qualify because of academic reasons. Instead, he enrolled at Diablo Valley Community College (Calif.) with plans of attending Cal sometime in 2002.

But last December, he transferred to Iona College in New York. After a few weeks there, Sensley transferred to Fresno State.

When Fresno State coach Jerry Tarkanian announced his retirement in March, Sensley was apparently contemplating yet another transfer.

Sensley was a first-team all-state selection after his sophomore and junior years at Kalaheo. He enrolled at St. Thomas More after his junior year.

According to ESPN college basketball analyst Andy Katz: "He's a talent, a scorer who could get picked in the second round."

The NBA draft is scheduled for June 26, and will consist of only two rounds — 58 total selections.

Former University of Hawai'i guard Predrag Savovic is listed as the No. 23 overall pick by Katz on ESPN.com.

Savovic is on the Mainland attending private workouts for NBA teams.
