Michelle Wie, 12, shot a 78 today at Standard Country Club in Duluth, Ga., to qualify for a U.S. Women's Open sectional.

Wie, a Punahou seventh-grader, will compete in a sectional at Valencia, Calif., June 10.

Qualifiers from this sectional will advance to play in the U.S. Women's Open July 4-7 at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

Wie was one of 14 qualifiers who competed in 47 degree weather.

"My hands were cold and I couldn't think," said Wie, who last week missed the cut at her second LPGA Tour event.

Wie shot 40-38. She three-putted two of the first three holes, she said.

Five other Hawai'i golfers qualified for a U.S. Women's Open sectional on Monday at Waialae Country Club.

They were Christel Tomori, Su A. Kim, Amanda Wilson, Desiree Ting and Stephanie Kono.
