Net chat leads to sex charges

A Honolulu man faces federal charges for allegedly traveling to Kaua'i to have sex with a 13-year-old girl he met via an Internet chat room.

A complaint filed yesterday against Michel S. Cabrera and supporting court documents claim Cabrera had sex with the girl at a Kaua'i hotel on May 15 and 16.

A Kaua'i Police Department officer went to the hotel on May 16 and found the girl and Cabrera in a room along with a video camera and a disposable camera that were used to record the encounter, according to court documents.

According to an affidavit filed by a U.S. Customs Service agent, seized videotapes show Cabrera and the minor "engaged in various acts which constitute 'sexually explicit conduct.' "
