Romano to run Hawai'i's USTA

Advertiser Staff

After staying with its original executive director for 16 years, the U.S. Tennis Association's Hawai'i Pacific Section recently named its third director in five years.

Ron Romano, former general manager of the Kaua'i Coconut Beach Resort, will be the new executive director. He has more than 25 years of experience in the industry and management.

Romano was general manager of the Sheraton Makaha prior to Coconut Beach. He also worked for the Kaua'i Lagoons Resort Company in operations, sales and marketing. Romano is a member of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association and the U.S. Professional Tennis Registry and has an extensive tennis background.

Romano takes over for Brent Mukai, who resigned March 1.

Its parent organization, the USTA, is the national governing body for tennis. It owns and stages the U.S. Open and selects the teams that compete in Davis Cup, Fed Cup and the Olympic Games.
