Moffatt tribute highlights memorable Hoku's

STAR WATCH: At Tuesday's Hoku awards, Lifetime Achievement winner Tom Moffatt's table got a lot of attention, not only for the Poi-Boy shirt he wore 'neath his coat, but because the likes of singer/actress Yvonne Elliman and Olympian boxer Brian Viloria were there, along with Sweetie Moffatt, recording veteran (and previous Lifetime Achiever) George Chun and Paradise Records staffer Andrea Dismuke. ...

Female Vocalist of the Year Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom acknowledged her new significant other, Kamaki, putting to rest her liaison with singer Willie K (though they're still pals). The happiest victors were Most Promising Artists Keahiwai (Mailani Makainai and Lei Melket), who also earned the public's nod as Favorite Entertainer, and The Lim Family, who beat The Mana'o Company in an upset as Group of the Year (even though TMC won five other big ones). Funniest line, from Del Beazley, saying he'll combine country and rap to create a genre called crap. ...

FOR DADS: Frank DeLima will do a Father's Day show at 12:30 p.m. June 16 at Dot's in Wahiawa, where a buffet will be served between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. It's become a tradition for the comedian to journey to the country for the dad tribute. Tickets: $19 in advance for adults, $11 for children 4-10 ($22 and $13 at the door). DeLima's still on hiatus from his Ohana Reef Towers Palace showroom gig, journeying to the Radisson Kaua'i at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow, and 7 p.m. Sunday. ITEMIZATIONS: Madeleine McKay led the standing ovation on opening night when her late husband Gardner McKay's play "Sea Marks" was produced by Gaye Glaser at Manoa Valley Theatre Monday and Tuesday. Hawai'i's acting community turned out in force to watch Peter Clark and Annie MacLachlan in action in the play directed by Joyce Maltby. The applauding audience included Melinda and Becky Maltby, Jo Pruden, Jane Campbell, Shari Lynn, Linda Ryan, Guy Merola, and Wally White, who did the set. Film star Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was in the audience, too. ...

A new monthly TV show, "Tech Buzz Hawai'i," premieres at 5 p.m. tomorrow on KHON. The half-hour monthly program, with producers and hosts Linda Jameson and Rodney Villanueva, will zoom in on high-tech firms and business creating a buzz in how we live and communicate. ...
