Tonight's Must-See
"Dark Angel" (7 p.m.) and "The X-Files" (8 p.m.), Fox. When "The X-Files" premiered nine years ago, it accomplished the near impossible. It got young, hip viewers to notice a Friday show. Though it was later moved to Sundays, the show will spend its final summer back in the original time slot. It will be alongside "Dark Angel," another recently canceled show that is also much better than its Friday time slot suggests. Tonight's "Dark Angel" has Max the young woman genetically bred as a super warrior facing a fresh crisis: There's a cult of powerful blood addicts. Then comes the "X-Files" rerun. Scully finds a murder case in an American hotel but suspects it actually happened in India.
Of Note
"JAG," 7 p.m., CBS. In a rerun, Mac is investigating a death on a Navy ship in the Indian Ocean.
"Summer Lovers" (1982), 9:50 p.m., AMC. Randal Kleiser ("Grease") directed this amiable film about three gorgeous people (Peter Gallagher, Daryl Hannah, Valerie Quennessen) on a beautiful Greek island. Much of the charm, however, was in the characters' benign approach to nudity. The TV version may be missing that.
Basketball, 7 p.m., NBC. While other networks stumble, NBC has the flash of the NBA playoffs.
"Reba," 7 p.m., WB. Now free of her cheating husband, Reba is ready to date again. In this rerun, Greg Evigan plays a handsome plumber.
"Maybe It's Me," 7:30 p.m., WB. This terrific comedy series gives sweet Molly something that any high-school girl would dread a date with someone who's a lot like her father.
"Do the Right Thing," 1989, 8 p.m., Bravo. The summer 1989 movie season is probably best remembered for the continuing adventures of an archaeologist named Indy and a certain Caped Crusader. But this masterwork of a film about a single incendiary day in the life of a Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood was the best film of the year. It remains Spike Lee's directorial peak.
