Lantern floating festival on Monday
Shinnyo-En plays host to its fourth annual Toro Nagashi (lantern floating) festival in Hawai'i, setting 1,000 lanterns out to sea Monday.
Shinnyo-En, which began in the 1930s, aims for world harmony through the application of traditional Buddhist principles in modern society. In Shinnyo-En, lanterns guide the souls of the dead over the "ocean of suffering" to the world of spiritual comfort.
Taiko drumming will be part of the 6 p.m. ceremony at Magic Island. Prayer requests may be made 3-5:30 p.m. Information: 536-3408.
