Islanders come up short against Fresno

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaiian Islanders took the Fresno Frenzy down to the wire last night, but once again, late-game luck was not on the side of the Islanders.

Darnell Arceneaux's pass intended for Isaac White fell short on the final play of the game as Fresno held off the Islanders, 55-48, in an arenafootball2 game at Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif.

The game appeared to have ended on the previous play when Arceneaux was sacked as time expired, but Fresno's Antawn Harris was called for unsportsmanlike conduct for taking off his helmet before the clock hit zero. The penalty moved the ball to the Frenzy 5-yard line and the Islanders were allowed one untimed play, but Arceneaux could not find White in the end zone.

Arceneaux had his best performance for the year completing 21-of-34 passes for 257 yards and four TDs. At one point, Arceneaux completed 11 passes in a row and was 12-of-15 in the first half.

The Islanders (1-7) have lost seven in a row after a 50-47 season-opening victory over Fresno on March 30. Fresno (3-5) has won three straight after dropping its first five.

The teams combined for 66 points in the second half after Fresno took a 20-17 lead at halftime. Official statistics were unavailable at press time.
