Business Notebook

Hilo Hattie, Hawai'i retailer and manufacturer of Hawaiian, resort and casual fashions, has been selected to manufacture and provide uniforms for the Kamehameha Schools' almost 3,900 students, grades kindergarten through 12, for the coming school year. Uniforms will be available for the schools' three island campuses at Hilo Hattie outlets in Kihei, Kona, Hilo, Kaua'i and the O'ahu flagship store on Nimitz Highway.

Marukai will add expanded frozen and chilled items and fish selections to the nearly 10,000 items available at new MARUKAI 99¢ Superstore open this week at Waipahu Town Center. The newly renovated 20,000-square-foot space will offer imports from Japan, the Mainland and Asia among the various departments, including housewares, kitchenware, toys, hardware, plastic goods, gifts and snacks. No membership is needed. Future Marukai Corp. stores are planned.

Seattle's Best Coffee has opened its sixth Hawai'i outlet — of 14 locations planned locally — adjacent to the lobby of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort as the hotel completes a $60 million renovation. The cafe will feature the chain's specialty coffee drinks, including its signature Javanilla¨ milkshakes, as well as pastries, sandwiches and desserts. The 660-square-foot cafe will seat 100, and will be open 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The local franchisee, GMS Hawai'i Corp., has plans to open Seattle's Best Coffee cafes, kiosks and carts in a variety of locations, including hotels, resorts, malls and neighborhood shopping centers.

Offering "alternative entertainment" — including circus and street performers, vaudeville acts, jugglers and acrobats — primarily for kids and "kids-at-heart," Kalaheo High School graduate Deena Frooman has returned after a two-decade events management career on the Mainland, to open Keiki Events Hawai'i. She will specialize in entertainment and events for corporate groups and company picnics.
