Fire scare empties Kaka'ako building

About 100 residents briefly evacuated an apartment building at 1133 Waimanu St. in Kaka'ako last night after overcooked food in a 14th-floor unit set off smoke alarms and alerted the fire department.

Residents fled the building at about 6:30 p.m. but were allowed to return within an hour after fire crews checked the scene and determined there was no further danger.
