Barboza run delays Pali traffic

Windward commuters today reported that their morning drive across the Pali Highway took an hour or more because of the second leg of an annual law enforcement run that promotes Special Olympics Hawai'i.

The First Hawaiian Bank Troy Barboza Lawa Enforcement Torch Run began yesterday in Kahuku. It resumed at 8:30 a.m. today, starting at the First Hawaiian branch in Kailua and at 7 a.m. from the Pearl City branch.

The event culminates tomorrow night with a run from Fort DeRussy to Rainbow Stadium and the cauldron lighting.

Search continues for missing man

Big Island fire rescue teams today resumed a search begun last night for a 35-year-old man who was dropped off on a Pahoa highway to pick opihi but never met with a friend as planned.

Officials said William T. Ishizu was left near Kumukahi Point but was reported missing at 8:35 p.m. when he missed a rendezvous with the friend, also picking opihi.

Companies from Pahoa and Waiakea stations conducted a shoreline search in the area, while a helicopter searched the seas, officials said. The search was suspended at about 11 p.m. but resumed after daybreak today.
