Liquor license vote set for today
The Liquor Commission has denied a Waimanalo request to delay for 90 days granting a liquor license to Gloria Bridal Services' Makapu'u wedding chapel and is expected to vote on the chapel's license request at a 4 p.m. hearing today at 711 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 600.
Last week, the commission denied a request by Wilson Ho, chairman of the Waimanalo Neighborhood Board, to delay granting the license to the Makapu'u chapel until another legal opinion concerning the panel's failure to take action could be obtained.
On April 4 the commission failed to obtain the three votes necessary to approve the application. But under state law, the license would be granted automatically because of the panel's failure to take action on the matter.

Highway work to finish in fall
The resurfacing work on Kalaniana'ole Highway's townbound lanes will be completed by June 11 and the entire project should be done by mid-November, the state Department of Transportation says.
Once the resurfacing is done on the townbound side, repavers will move to the Hawai'i Kai-bound lanes. The repaving of those lanes should take about 10 weeks, said Marilyn Kali, department spokeswoman.
Transportation officials began work on the $6 million project to replace underground water mains in April 2001.

Waste spills at Helemano
An accidental spill at Helemano Military Reservation on Tuesday sent 5,100 gallons of wastewater into two ravines in a remote area, according to the Directorate of Public Works at Wheeler Army Airfield.
The spill, from sewer manholes at a wastewater pumping station, was discovered at 6:30 a.m.
The lines have been cleared and the ground disinfected, the directorate said.
The cause of the spill is under investigation.
