Kaua'i Electric sale completed

Advertiser Staff

The sale of Kaua'i Electric to a community cooperative became final today.

The Public Utilities Commission approved the sale in September. Kaua'i Island Utility Co-op bought the company from Stamford, Conn.-based Citizens Communications for $215 million.

"Our electric utility should be controlled by the people it serves," said KIUC Chairman Gregg Gardiner. "We look forward to our ability to reduce our island's high cost of electricity through the benefits of cooperative ownership."
