Art House adds DVD showings

Advertiser Staff

The Wallace chain's Restaurant Row 9 Art House Theaters have partnered with Sony Hawaii to obtain equipment allowing the showing of movies on DVD and videotape, and helping to provide access for local filmmakers.

Sony provided Wallace with a 3,500-lumen projector and Beta SP tape player — equipment capable of producing large, bright pictures and digital sound that Wallace says is "almost indistinguishable from 35mm film."

This month's showings include:

• Nov. 8-14: A weeklong presentation of Aaron Yamasato's award-winning "Blood of the Samurai," a local production shot on digital video.

• Nov. 15-21: "The Power of the Truth Film Series," showcasing films about the Dalai Lama, Tibet and spiritual leader Ram Dass.

• Nov. 22-28: "Catch a Wave Film Festival," featuring surf films from Rip Curl and more, and coinciding with the Triple Crown championship of surfing.
