Kailua's Tina Eakin earned a "double" award for her performance in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship and Nissan Xterra World Championship in October.

Eakin, 32, won her 30-34 age group for combined times in the Ironman and Xterra World Championship. Competing in both events is called a double.

"This is actually my best performance," said Eakin, who competes in one of the most competitive age divisions. "I took 15 minutes off my Xterra time this year and I took 34 minutes off my Kona time."

It was the second "double" performance for Eakin, who is an assistant physical fitness coordinator in the Navy.

At the Ironman, Eakin completed the 2.4-mile ocean swim, 112-mile bicycle ride and 26.2-mile run in 10 hours, 44 minutes and 30 seconds.

Eakin was the 46th woman overall, the first female military finisher and finished 10th in her age group at the Oct. 19 race held on the Big Island.

Natascha Badmann, 35, of Switzerland won the women's overall title with a time of 9:07:54.

At the Xterra World Championship, Eakin completed the 1.5-kilometer swim off Wailea Beach, 30-kilometer mountain bike ride up the slopes of Haleakala and 11-kilometer trail run from Makena to Wailea in 3:19:43.

Eakin was the 14th woman finisher overall, the first female amateur and was one of five Hawai'i competitors to win an age-group division in the Oct. 27 race held on Maui.

Candy Angle, 33, of Massachusetts won the women's title in 2:57:33.
