Two workshops, sponsored by the Hawai'i Small Business Development Center Network and the Small Business Resources Center, are upcoming:

• "FENG SHUI FOR YOUR SMALL BUSINESS," a workshop designed "bring greater wealth and good fortune" to the small business and enhance co-workers' relationships, will be offered 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday. The workshop presenter will be Clarence Lau.

• Are client lunches tax-deductible as a small-business expense? How about deductions for travel, personal meals and entertainment? "All You Wanted to Know about Travel, Meals and Entertainment Expenses" will be the subject of a workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday. TUESDAY

• Michael Egan, an author, consultant and educator, will lead a free seminar for career professionals tomorrow on ways to "boost one's bottom line" and "jump-start one's career." The presentation, "Unleashing Your Potential," is sponsored by Honolulu University, an online educational resource with more than 4,000 students. Egan, president of Michael Egan Associates, has written best-selling books on public speaking and team building. The seminar will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ala Moana Hotel. • The advantages of diversifying investment dollars will be the subject of a free "Diversification Seminar," offered 2 to 3 p.m. in the offices of the Edward Jones financial firm, Suite 206, 320 Ward Ave. Reservations: 596-0076.

• A "MICRO ENTERPRISE TRAINING" class, sponsored by the Honolulu Community Action Program and free to low-income people, will be offered 9 a.m. to noon, through Thursday, at the HCAP main office on the second floor at 1109 Maunakea St. Topics will include business startup, loans, taxes and marketing. • The MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER OF HONOLULU will offer free weekly orientation sessions to minority business owners and prospective entrepreneurs. The sessions, scheduled 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday in Suite 2506 of the Executive Center, 1088 Bishop St., will offer advice on business startup, marketing plans, loans, employee handbooks and access to capital. • A free COMPUTER BOOT CAMP is offered 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to all small-business owners interested in using computer technology to improve and expand business operations and management. The program is sponsored by the Small Business Resource Center, in partnership with the Small Business Administration, the city Office of Economic Development, Hawai'i Small Business Development Center Network, Hawai'i Women's Business Center, and SCORE. • The Hawai'i Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association will present annual scholarships to students in the hospitality industry at Ruth's Christ Steak House at Restaurant Row. The event starts with 11:30 a.m. registration and continues to 1:30 p.m. The speaker will be Pauline J. Sheldon, interim dean and professor of tourism at the University of Hawai'i's School of Travel Industry Management, who will discuss latest initiatives, including an online e-TIM certificate program, the soon-to-be-opened Technology Learning Center, and new internship and exchange opportunities. • Strategies that can help contractors reduce tax liability will be the focus of a workshop, "TAX PLANNING FOR CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES," presented by by a panel of certified public accountants.
