Case, Kaapu join race for Mink's seat

Advertiser Staff

Former state Rep. Ed Case was among the first people to file nomination papers yesterday for the Jan. 4 special election to replace the late Patsy Mink in the 108th Congress.

Former Honolulu City Council member Kekoa Kaapu also filed yesterday for the 2nd Congressional District seat, which represents rural O'ahu and the Neighbor Islands.

The candidate filing deadline for the Jan. 4 election is Nov. 20.

A Nov. 30 election will determine who will serve the final five weeks of Mink's term.

Case and Kaapu are among 38 candidates vying for that position.

Mink served in Congress for more than 20 years. She died Sept. 28, two days after the deadline to have her name removed from the general election ballot.
