Man indicted in Waikiki slaying

A 39-year-old man was indicted yesterday for allegedly murdering a woman in Waikiki Saturday.

Donald Barry Marks is accused of killing Yoko Sanders, 38, in a fifth-floor apartment at 2509 Ala Wai Blvd. His bail yesterday was raised from $100,000 to $1 million.

Remembrance for Kapa'a teen today

Kapa'a High School student activities coordinators and classmates of a 17-year-old senior killed Tuesday night when he crashed his pickup truck are planning an informal remembrance service today on campus.

Dustin Kaneakua was killed when his pickup truck skidded off the roadway, slid down a 10-foot embankment and into the Kainahola Reservoir at about 8:45 p.m. The boy, who had been underwater for about 15 minutes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

School Principal Gilmore Youn requested a moment of silence for Kaneakua yesterday.

Man sought in auto thefts, break-ins

The Honolulu Police Department's career criminal unit is looking for a 34-year-old man for questioning about a series of auto thefts and vehicle break-ins. Warren K. White Jr., also known as Warren Machado, is also wanted on two outstanding court warrants.

White is known to frequent the Papakolea and Makiki areas. He has a weapons offense conviction and is considered dangers.

Meat smoker reportedly sighted

Police are following up on a reported sighting in Kahalu'u of a $7,000 meat smoker that was stolen Oct. 13 in Kaimuki.

The Southern Yankee Pit Smoker on a trailer was chained to a pole behind Top of the Hill restaurant at 3579 Wai'alae Ave. "They punctured the tires the night before so I couldn't move it and came back to steal it the next day," said Phillip Cater, the smoker's owner and a chef at Top of the Hill.

Cater said he parked it in the public parking lot behind Top of the Hill and chained it to a pole. But the thieves sawed through the pole on Oct. 13, sometime between 3 a.m. and 2 p.m.
