Campbell High students bridge gap at leadership course

Advertiser Staff

How do you cross a 10-foot gap using wooden planks that are only 6 to 8 feet long? That was just one of the problems facing these Campbell High School students yesterday at the Leadership Reaction Course at Schofield Barracks.

Despite a few slips, this group bridged the 10-foot gap in 47 minutes, much better than the average of one hour it takes most adult groups, said Schofield spokesman Bob Warner. The fun included Laurie Gagala's reaction as one of the team's planks slipped from the grasp of Richelle Ignacio while team members Jackson Iglesia, Lynelle Costanios, Casey Cajalne and Eric Madarang (left foreground) looked on. After solving the problem, Costanios rolled a 55-gallon drum across the gap (top photo) to complete the project. The group placed the planks at various angles and used their own body weight to build a safe bridge, Warner said. The three-day Leadership Reaction Course comprised a dozen stations with various problems requiring students to work as a team.

The event concludes today with a cookout and sporting events.
