FUN HOUSE
You have the baby, I'll take care of the rest

A few months ago my 5-year-old niece asked me, "Auntie, when are you going to have a baby?"

I started giving her a list of questions: "Who is going to watch the baby?" "Who is going to wake up and feed the baby in the middle of the night?" "Who is going to play with the baby?"

Her answer to each questions was "I will!"

She said it with such excitement that I had to play along with her and entertain the idea that I would leave my newborn in the care of my 5-year-old niece, so determined to convince me that if I had a baby, she would take care of it.

I knew that I could get out of it by asking her my final question, because she wouldn't know the answer to it: "Well, who is going to take care of my baby when you're at school?"

She paused for a second and replied, "I will! The baby will just have to wait in the cubbyhole till the bell rings!"
