Series of ethanol seminars scheduled

Advertiser Staff

A series of free evening workshops across the state this week will acquaint mechanics and other interested folks in the use of ethanol in gasoline for cars, trucks and other vehicles — and progress toward developing ethanol production facilities in the Islands.

It is part of the state's ethanol fuel initiative. The workshops lead up to an all-day Fuel Ethanol Workshop conference Thursday at the Ala Moana Hotel. Speakers at that session will include representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, auto manufacturers, oil companies, researchers and regulators.

There is a $20 fee for the Thursday meetings. All the evening sessions are free and run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Heavy pupus will be served.

Workshops are scheduled:

  • Tomorrow at Maui Community College, Building 205, Community Services, and at Kailua, Kona's Hawaii Community College, Business and Technology Training Institute, 75-5660 Kopiko St., Unit A-2, Kopiko Plaza.
  • Tuesday at Hilo's Hawai'i Community College, Manono Campus, 200 W. Kawili St., Building 388, Room 102; and at Kaua'i Community College, Room 101A.
  • Wednesday at the Honolulu Community College cafeteria, 874 Dillingham Blvd.

For details, call the state's energy division at 587-3817. Or, for more information on the evening workshops or the Thursday conference, check the workshop Web site.
