Takata takes judo gold at Pan American event

Team USA's Taylor Takata of Wahiawa won a gold medal for the second year in a row at the Pan American Judo Union Senior Championships on Saturday at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Takata won the 60kg (132-pound) division, in which he is ranked No. 1 in the United States.
Taylor Takata is ranked No. 1 in the United States in his division.
It was Takata's third international championship in five weeks.
He won the U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Oct. 10-13, and the Rendez Vouz tournament in Montreal, Oct. 18-20.
American athletes won 10 medals in the hemisphere tournament, but the only other USA gold medal was won by Chuck Jefferson of San Jose, Calif., at 73kg.
Takata was in transit to the USA Olympic Training Center, where he resides and trains full time, last night and could not be reached.
