11-year-old hurt while surfing
An 11-year-old boy suffered possible spinal cord injuries when he was hit by a wave while surfing at Makaha Surfing Beach yesterday shortly before 2 p.m.
Mandy Shiraki of Emergency Medical Services said the boy was flown from Wai'anae State Boat Harbor to The Queen's Medical Center in serious but stable condition. Paramedics said the boy initially could not move his legs but later did so during the helicopter flight.
Queen's medical officials last night did not disclose the boy's condition because he is a minor.
