Guns stolen from North Shore home

Police are investigating the theft of three assault rifles, seven handguns and 1,000 rounds of ammunition in a burglary of a Sunset Beach residence that occurred between 8 a.m. yesterday and 2:30 a.m. today.

The missing weapons include AR7, AR7T and AR15 rifles; two Glock and two Ruger semiautomatic pistols, two Lesbauer .45-caliber semiautomatic handguns, and a .45-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, said police.

The firearms were taken from the bedroom of a residence on the 58-400 block Kamehameha Highway. Police said the guns may not be registered locally.

"Someone who would steal guns is someone with nothing to lose because stealing guns is a federal offense," David Graves of Collectable Arms Unlimited. "The gun community here is close so it would be difficult to sell them here. More likely, they'll be shipped somewhere else."

Graves said Hawai'i law requires registration of all firearms within 24 to 48 hours of their arrival here.
