Hatchet threat leads to arrest

Police arrested a 55-year-old homeless man today on suspicion of threatening two people with a hatchet in the parking lot of a Ke'eaumoku Street restaurant.

The incident, which is being investigated as a first-degree terroristic threatening, was reported at 4 a.m. The man fled when police arrived but was captured about a block away.

Man critical after Ka'a'awa crash

A 29-year-old man was in critical condition today at The Queen's Medical Center today after he was injured in an auto crash in Ka'a'awa last night.

The man's vehicle hit a utility pole at 9:11 p.m., police said. The accident was on Kamehameha Highway near the U.S. Post Office station.

Main break closes Makaha lanes

A water main break last night forced the closure of two Makaha-bound lanes of Farrington Highway in front of Wai'anae High School.

Two Honolulu-bound lanes and a center turn lane of the highway were being used to contra-flow traffic.

Repair work on the 8-inch water main that ruptured at 10:30 last night was expected to continue through the afternoon. The main is one of the new ones installed as part of the Board of Water Supply's on-going work in the area to replace a 24-inch line.
