Priory student's art recognized

The artwork of Kimi Fukuyama, a fifth-grader at St. Andrew's Priory School, has been selected for a new book about patriotism, "Songs for America's Children."

The book features national songs with symbols of America as interpreted by grade school students across the United States. Fukuyama's drawing appears on the title page of the book.

Proceeds from "Songs for America's Children" benefit World Hunger Year, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world.

The songs and artwork for the book were compiled by Danny and Kim Alderman, who asked children, "When you hear the word 'America,' what do you think of?" Responses ranged from the American eagle and the national flag to the Statue of Liberty or baseball.
