75 Hawai'i seniors named National Merit semifinalists

In Hawai'i, 75 high school seniors qualified as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists this year.
They are among 16,000 nationwide who can compete for 8,000 National Merit Scholarship awards worth $30 million.
The semifinalists are among students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in the fall of their junior year. They are the state's highest scorers and represent the top 1 percent of the state's seniors.
Finalists will be named in the spring.
At Punahou School, 28 seniors qualified as semifinalists. Iolani School has 21 semifinalists.
