Yokozuna Musashimaru will sit out the rest of the two-week Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament in Fukuoka, Japan, after five matches because of an injury to his left wrist, his stablemaster said today.
MUSASHIMARU
Grand champion Musashi-maru (Wai'anae's Fiamalu Penitani), crashed to his first defeat of the tournament Thursday, losing to former ozeki (champion)Takanonami.
Wrestling in the day's final bout at Fukuoka Kokusai Center in southern Japan, Musashimaru got hold of top-ranked maegashira Takanonami's belt with the right hand and attempted to throw him onto the dirt near the ring's edge.
But Takanonami resisted and moved backward deftly forcing Murashimaru's left leg to touch soil outside the straw ridge. Takanonami improved to 4-1, while Musashimaru fell to 4-1.
