Educator to be tutor, mentor coordinator

Katherine Phelan joined the Hawaii Pacific Tennis Foundation and is its first tutor/mentor coordinator. She is a teacher with a master's in education.

Phelan has extensive training in the education and volunteer management fields. She has served as an educational program coordinator as well as a supervisor and program developer for a national park ranger program.

Phelan will organize and coordinate the tutorial and mentor components of the Foundation's Hui Kenika No Na Keiki program.

• HPTF banquet: The Hawaii Pacific Tennis Foundation will honor its Citizens and Volunteer of the Year at a holiday gathering Dec. 13 at Ruth's Chris Restaurant in Honolulu. The dinner will be from 5-7 p.m.
