Man, 81, dies after Nov. 5 accidentAn 81-year-old man injured in a Nov. 5 head-on collision on Jarret White Road in Moanalua died last night at The Queen's Medical Center.
The medical examiner's office identified the man as Milton Suzukawa of Kane'ohe. It is the 61st traffic fatality of the year on O'ahu.
Police, meanwhile, said speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in a 1:20 a.m. crash today in 'Ewa that left a 19-year-old man in critical condition at Queen's hospital.
The man was a passenger in a 1997 Ford pickup truck that crashed into a tree in the center medial of Renton Road near Tenney Road. A 23-year-old man who was driving the truck is listed in guarded condition at Queen's.
In an earlier collision on the H-1 Freeway near the Waipahu Street overpass, a 26-year-old Kapolei man suffered a dislocated wrist and arm injuries when his pickup truck was sideswiped by a sedan yesterday at 4:49 p.m. The car's driver fled the scene of foot. The injured man is in fair condition at Queen's.
Also yesterday, a crash near Crouching Lion Inn shortly before 11 a.m. forced the closure of Kamehameha Highway for four hours. A woman driving a truck that struck a utility pole told police she swerved to avoid a dog.
Kaua'i police look for hiker's baby
Kaua'i homicide investigators and fire rescue specialists today were trying to locate the body of a pre-term baby whose parents said was stillborn during a hike Saturday into Kalalau Valley in northwest Kaua'i.
The case is being investigated as an unattended death, pending an autopsy. The father told police he buried the baby's body in the valley. The birth occurred about midnight Saturday, police said.
The woman, 34, who was 8 months pregnant, was hiking in the valley with the man. They were picked up by a Fire Department helicopter after a tour helicopter spotted "SOS" scrawled on the beach yesterday at 9:20 a.m.
Man charged with stealing credit card
Police yesterday charged a 38-year-old man for allegedly stealing the credit card of a tourist staying at a Waikiki hotel. Russell John Teramae, who has no local address, is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail for credit card theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The alleged theft was reported early Saturday. A 33-year-old woman, who is a second suspect in the theft case, is still at large, police said.
Kalihi man accused of hitting wife
Police charged a 25-year-old Kalihi man on Saturday for allegedly striking his wife in the face during a domestic argument. The woman suffered a broken nose, police said. Paulo Tilia was charged with two counts of second-degree assault. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
