Advertiser Staff

More than 250 international students participating in the 15th "Ship for World Youth" program arrive in Honolulu today and will be at the University of Hawai'iiManoa campus tomorrow for a day of cultural performances, panel discussions and international exchange.

The event is one of a number of activities planned at campuses throughout the UH system to celebrate International Education Week, today through Friday.

Lectures and panel discussions are planned at UH-Manoa, Kapi'olani and Honolulu Community Colleges, and an International Education Fair will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at UH West O'ahu and Leeward Community College.

Ship for World Youth is an exchange project initiated in 1988 and hosted by the government of Japan to bring together people 18 to 30 years old from around the world to promote understanding and friendship.

The program starts in Japan. After an orientation, participants board the Japanese cruise ship Nippon Maru and travel through the Pacific and South Pacific. Participants this year represent 12 countries.

The Nippon Maru arrives at 10:30 a.m. today at Pier 2 at Honolulu Harbor.

The Hawai'i stopover will include a panel discussion with UH students and faculty to explore the theme "Uniting Nations — Creating Conditions for Peaceful Coexistence."

A collaborative art piece also will be created during the week.
