Panel to discuss biotech ventures

The University of Hawai'i College of Business Administration is sponsoring a program tonight that will feature a panel of Silicon Valley biotech venture capitalists in a discussion on the future of the life science industry and the opportunities for the state.

The free program runs from 5 to 6 p.m. at the U.H. School of Architecture auditorium.

Astronomy future is topic of talk

Rolf-Peter Kudritzki, director of the University of Hawai'i Institute for Astronomy, will discuss his vision for the future of astronomy in Hawai'i from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hawaii Prince Waikiki, Mauna Kea Ballroom.

The future involves breakthroughs in technology that will warn us of dangerous asteroids, and the largest educational telescope in the world that will be available for Hawai'i's children next year.

Doctors to speak on rare diseases

Dr. Charles Boyd from the University of Hawai'i Pacific Biomedical Research Center will talk about the genetics of rare hereditary diseases and how this type of research relates to biotechnology industry development in Hawai'i, noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 26, in Room 20-B, Ali'i Place, 1099 Alakea St.

Dr. James Hastings from The Queen's Medical Center will provide comments following Dr. Boyd's presentation.
