Man shot in shoulder at Sunset Beach home

A 49-year-old man, who last week reported the theft of 10 firearms and 1,000 rounds of ammunition from his Sunset Beach home, was shot early Sunday at the same home by an unknown assailant.

The man, who reportedly has no criminal record, was treated for a gunshot wound to his right shoulder at Wahiawa General Hospital and released, police said.

He told investigators the shot was fired from the beach about 4:30 a.m. At the time, the man said he was in the lanai area of his beachfront cottage on the 59-400 block of Kamehameha Highway.

Police have no information on a suspect in the attempted second-degree murder investigation.

The man's home was burglarized last week, sometime between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The firearms taken included AR7, AR7T and AR15 semiautomatic assault rifles, two Glock and two Ruger semiautomatic pistols, two Lesbauer .45-caliber semiautomatic handguns and a .45-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, according to police.

The theft of firearms can be a federal offense, but the investigation, so far, is being handled by police.

Police declined comment on whether yesterday's shooting is connected to the theft of the weapons or if the victim may have been shot with one of his stolen guns. He reportedly was wounded with a small-caliber bullet.
