University of Hawai'i junior Lily Kahumoku was named AVCA/Sports Import Division I Player of the Week after leading the Rainbows to wins in their final two Western Athletic Conference regular-season matches.

Kahumoku also received WAC Player of the Week honors.

In the AVCA/USA Today Poll released yesterday, Hawai'i moved up one spot to No. 2 while USC regained the top spot with 55 first-place votes.

Stanford, which was No. 1 in last week's poll, dropped to No. 4 after losing to No. 17 Washington State on Saturday, 31-29, 30-24, 23-30, 30-26.

Kahumoku, an outside hitter, hit .418 in matches against Fresno State and San Jose State last week, leading Hawai'i to wins that clinched the WAC regular-season title. Kahumoku had a career-high 33 kills in the five-game win over Fresno State. She added 16 kills and 10 digs against San Jose State, and hit .400.

She was an All-American two years ago, but sat out last season for personal reasons.

Last week's wins gave UH a 13-0 record in WAC play for the regular season, and extended its conference winning streak to 65 matches.

Hawai'i is the No. 1 seed going into this weekend's WAC tournament, and will face No. 8 seed Louisiana Tech on Friday at 10 a.m. (HST).

Fresno State is the No. 2 seed, and plays No. 7 SMU at 3:30. Nevada is No. 3, San Jose State No. 4, Rice No. 5, and UTEP No. 6.
