Firearms recovered in home burglary

Wahiawa Crime Reduction Unit police officers have recovered five of 10 firearms stolen last Wednesday from a Sunset Beach home and arrested three 19-year-old Waialua men in the past two days on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

Two of three semiautomatic assault rifles and three of seven handguns in addition to some of the 1,000 rounds of ammunition stolen in the burglary have been recovered, police said. The arrests were made at separate addresses on Kamakahala Street.

Police arrested the first suspect at 10:50 a.m. Monday and recovered two rifles and two handguns. Yesterday, two other men were arrested and one handgun was recovered. All three men have been released pending further investigation.

Army conducting child-abuse probe

The Army's Criminal Investigation Division, assisted by Honolulu police, is conducting a child-abuse probe involving a 4-month-old infant, who has head injuries and multiple fractures.

The injuries were reported to state Child Protective Services by Tripler Army Medical Center staff yesterday at 4 p.m. There have been no arrests in the case, which is being investigated as a first-degree assault.

Monday truck crash kills 'Ewa man, 19

A 19-year-old 'Ewa man injured in the crash of a pickup truck Monday morning on Renton Road died at 1 a.m. today at The Queen's Medical Center. The medical examiner's office identified the man as Blessing Palimoo.

His death is O'ahu's 62nd traffic fatality of the year. The driver of the truck, 23, is in guarded condition.

Meanwhile, a 1-year-old girl critically injured in a Nov. 10 van crash in La'ie that killed her 2-month-old brother and injured four other family members has been transferred from Queen's hospital to Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children, where she is listed in good condition.

Couple accused of abusing corpse

Kaua'i police are seeking criminal charges against a 35-year-old man and 34-year-old woman on suspicion of abusing a corpse.

The couple reported that the woman gave birth to a stillborn child late Saturday night while hiking in Kalalau Valley. The man said he buried the infant in the valley but police and Department of Land & Natural Resources personnel searched for two days and have not been able to recover a body.

The couple was arrested for a misdemeanor abuse of a corpse on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

Man apprehends would-be thief

A 22-year-old man saw two people trying to steal his car and was able to chase down and apprehend one of them for police.

The suspect, 29, was arrested at 12:50 a.m. in Waikiki on suspicion of being in possession of stolen credit cards.

Armed robbery charges are also pending because the victim was allegedly threatened with a knife by the arrested man's companion, who is still at large.

Teen faces charge of sexual assault

A 15-year-old boy was charged yesterday with allegedly attacking a girl in the restroom of a Leeward District high school. The boy is accused of first-degree sexual assault and is being held at the Alder Street detention facility pending Family Court action.

Suspect in bank robbery being held

A 34-year-old man is being held on a federal arrest warrant charging him with Monday's robbery of Hawai'i National Bank at 45 N. King St. The warrant was expected to be unsealed today.
